Join Us and Support Internet Blackout Day
Do you care about internet freedom? On 14 August 2012, the Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) invites all netizens and online organisations to support Internet Blackout Day.
It’s the next big step for the Stop 114A campaign. Much like the U.S. Blackout to oppose the SOPA bill, this effort will focus on educating Malaysians about the negative impact of the new amendment.
We invite you to join us and upload a pop-up to your website on 14 August for 24 hours. Please refer to our Get Involved page, where you can find all the campaign tools you’ll need to support and participate in the blackout.
We urge you to support internet freedom in our country. Please write to CIJ Malaysia at cijmalaysia@gmail.com or call Masjaliza Hamzah at 03-4024 9840 for further assistance.

We need internet freedom! Support this please!
Thank you very much for that!
The Evidence Act 2012 is not so much to check seditious comments posted in the internet but more to protect the Umno/BN government from exposure of their corruption, abuse of power, cronyism and institutionalize discrimination, that has become endemic in this regime’s governance. The government wants to control the internet,to censor truth from being exposed in the internet. This Act will also give power to the government to fix-up people, who oppose them or people it doesn’t like by hacking into their computer and posting seditious comments, thus rendering that person guilty, until he/she prove, they are innocent of the crime in a court of law.By the time a person prove their innocence,he/she would have spent between RM5k to RM10k in court cost and lawyer’s fees.Simplified, the government is saying, you expose us,we will make your life difficult.
aku 100% menyokong..
Thanks!
i dont get it. so what do we do in this 14 august.?
Hi Amir, we are planning to do a blackout day. it’s actually not a total blackout but participating websites will display a pop-up message about the campaign. Facebook and Twitter users can change their profile picture to the images we provide to show their support. Thanks!
There are many ways you can participate in Internet Blackout Day! Check out our “Get Involved” page to find out how you can help raise awareness about Section 114A and mobilize support for its repeal: https://stop114a.wordpress.com/get-involved/
can I know, will it really blackout like close down the Internet ( Fb&twitter etc) or you doing like how Wikipedia do it ( during SOPA case)?
Hi,
Thanks for submitting your question! The campaign does not involve a complete Internet blackout. All participating websites will continue to operate as usual, but they will display a pop-up message for visitors to read before accessing the website.
TWO CAN PLAY THIS GAME….LETS IMPERSONATE AH JIB N HIS MOB A MILLION TIMES OVER AND LET THEM HAVE A TASTE OF THEIR OWN MEDICINE BY FORCING THE AG TO INVOKE THE ACT ON THEM !!!!…TAKE THAT SUCKAAAAAAAA !!!!!!!

Thank you for your support!
i too don’t get it, the internet is the only form of weapon we have at the moment. What if something important happens on the 14th of August and the main media does not report about it. are we still not to open the internet on that day?
For me closing the internet for a day is like two groups fighting in the battlefield and one group decides it wants peace therefore it is going to lay down its weapon and walk towards the enemy empty handed, will it stop the other group from shooting at us ? This is a very negative approach.
Lets get a more pro active approach towards showing our displeasure towards this amendments. Use the internet to our favour dont disuse the internet and i do believe it is more like doing things in the other parties favour.
Hi Manivannan, the Internet Blackout Day that we are organizing is an awareness campaign. It is not going to take down all the websites. Those websites will only display a pop-up message about the campaign. That’s all. You can still go to the websites for example, Malaysiakini to read news. Thanks for your concerns.
IF thats the case i am with you count me in. i was of the perception that we are all going to stop using the internet for a day. anyway i am in. you an reach me in my facebook and i wil add the popup message to my facebook too. regards and thanks for the info

They are not controlling Internet. What they are trying to do here is to control how we vote.
I am participating on this too.
Blackout is the wrong word to use then….This is more of an awareness case.
Vote out completely the dishonourable, corrupt regime of UMNO/BN to show them our disapprovals of their 54 years of discriminations against ALL Malaysians for Malaysia
All websites under my care are in support today.

114A must be stopped, for internet freedom!

my blog.. also joining this..http://fushengslifeblog.blogspot.com/
we, forum-asia also participate

Outstanding- we absolutely need our freedom with the internet people such as myself have real income and jobs working online.
People can manage the internet freedom much better than governments. Governments betray their medieval attitude when they attempt to control the freedom of the internet. Actually they betray their paranoia only. Poor and backward governments alone do that mischief. Human beings have not been fooled by the persuasive tongue of the Devil. So fear not misuse of the internet.
didn’t read about this until the 14th . . . got the banner up on both my blogs . . .
cool!
It worked for SOPA/PIPA!
I’m glad you were Freshly Pressed!
So many countries are going through this right now, I hope 114A is stopped.
Count me in too, we as a internet citizen requires freedom . We don’t want everything square all around.
